Purpose To report the rate of occurrence of cerebral venous sinus thrombosis (CVST) in patients with presumed idiopathic intracranial hypertension (IIH). Design Retrospective chart review. Participants All patients diagnosed with papilledema from November 1, 2002, through October 31, 2003, at 3 tertiary care neuro-ophthalmology centers. Methods Consecutive patients with a diagnosis of papilledema from 3 tertiary care neuro-ophthalmology centers were identified. Background and purpose The purpose was to report the results of ultrasound-guided lumbar puncture for the administration of nusinersen in spinal muscular atrophy (SMA) patients with complex spines. Methods Eighteen SMA patients (five children, five adolescents and eight adults) with either severe scoliosis or spondylodesis were evaluated for ultrasound-guided lumbar puncture. Cerebral hypometabolism and abnormal levels of amyloid beta (Aβ), total (t-tau) and phosphorylated tau (ptau) proteins in cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) are established biomarkers of Alzheimer's disease (AD). We examined the agreement between these biomarkers in a single center study of patients with AD of severity extending over a wide range. UNLABELLED We explored the effect of fibrin glue injection at the site of dural puncture on cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) leakage in a swine model. Pigs were subjected to a lumbar dural CSF puncture in the sitting position with a 17-gauge Tuohy needle. Fibrin glue 1.4 mL was injected through the same needle into the epidural space. Evans blue dye was infused through the cisterna magna 15 min later, and the appearance of dyed CSF through the skin puncture and along the needle trajectory to the dura was inspected and categorized.
